Guest House Work Site
We're here at the guesthouse that is being built in Mirebalais. These Haitian workers are working their tails off mixing concrete by hand, setting a plumbline and aligning the concrete blocks and they are doing it under the scorching Carribean sun. I think they are grateful to have work in a country where unemployment represents the majority of the population. The pay? A manual laborer gets $4 a week. A skilled laborer gets $6 a week. And a site supervisor makes the big bucks: $20 a week. If you have any job back home, be grateful. We are waiting for the container. The guys are giving me grief because they are moving cinder blocks as I blog. Gotta go.
